castlestovisit.com is a free, informational directory of castles, palaces, fortresses and ruins in Europe. The data is indicative and may be out of date — confirm the details at the source before you travel. Operator: Aleksander Uznański (contact@castlestovisit.com). Governing law: Poland.
Important — access and site rules
Information about access, opening hours, prices and rules of visit is not legal advice and can change. Many castles are private residences, working estates or active institutions; ruins may stand on private land or be closed for safety. Where visiting is possible it is governed by each operator's own rules and hours. Entering a closed or private site without permission may breach those rules or the law. Always check the current rules, or the signage on site, before you visit. Where a status is not confirmed, the listing says so instead of guessing.
Data sources and licences (attribution)
The service uses open data only. We carry the attribution each licence requires:
- Wikidata — CC0 (castle entities, coordinates, dates, architectural styles, heritage designations).
- OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under ODbL (entry fees, opening hours, access tags).
- Wikimedia Commons — images under their per-file licences (CC/public domain), credited on the file page each image links to.
- Full list: Wikidata (CC0), OpenStreetMap (ODbL), Wikimedia Commons (per-file CC/PD).
We deliberately do not use the databases of other castle directory sites: those are protected by database (sui generis) rights. Facts are verified against open and official sources.

Photos uploaded by users
You can add a photo of a venue. By uploading it you confirm that you hold the rights to it (you took it, or you have the photographer's permission) and you grant castlestovisit.com a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to publish it on this site. Do not upload photos showing identifiable people without their consent, or content that is illegal, offensive or unrelated to the place.
Every photo is moderated before publication — until it is approved it is not visible anywhere. We may refuse to publish, or remove, any photo without giving a reason. Location data (EXIF/GPS) is stripped from the file automatically before upload. Want your photo taken down? Write to contact@castlestovisit.com.
Liability
The operator accepts no liability for the consequences of relying on this data. Ads may be served by third-party providers (for example Google AdSense) under their own policies.
